| The current Hereford cow herd at W4 Ranch, consisting of 1000 registered mother cows, is based upon phenotype, EPDs, and production.
We have taken females from some of the top herds in the country to form the current herd. Our purpose is to produce the kind of cattle that are functional and will produce in any part of the world.
Our main goal is to produce Hereford seed stock that can be bred to Hereford bulls. However, with the hybrid vigor of Hereford cattle, a cross-breeding program is a very big part of what we do.
In addition to the Hereford cattle, we also breed a large number of our cattle to J.D. Hudgins Brahman bulls for golden-certified Fl females to market in our production sale in the fall and special sales in the spring. W4 also has a small herd of Angus cattle to raise bulls and females for sales and cross-breeding.
We breed a large number of our heifers to Angus bulls, which gives the ranch yet another cross in the "black baldy."
We feel so strongly that Hereford cattle are a breed to be reckoned with that we have formed a partnership with one of the top breeders and showmen in the country, Gary and Kathy Buchholz. This partnership consists of the ten top donor cows in the Hereford breed today which will be flushed jointly to produce the kind of cattle we are all trying to raise.
In the future be sure to look for these cattle in the show and sale rings with the GKB/W4 brand. We are excited about this venture! |
